How to use

How each value is counted
Characters
Whitespace and line breaks are included. On supported browsers, Unicode grapheme segmentation is used so emoji and combined characters are counted closer to how they appear visually.
Without whitespace
Whitespace characters such as spaces, tabs, and line breaks are removed before counting.
UTF-8 bytes
This is the byte size of the text when encoded as UTF-8. Many non-ASCII characters use more than one byte.
400-character pages
This is a simple character count divided by 400. It does not account for blank cells caused by line breaks or page layout.
Words (reference)
This uses the browser’s word segmentation when available. Word boundaries can vary by language and writing style, so the value should be treated as a reference.
FAQ
Is my text uploaded?
No. Character and byte counts are calculated in your browser, and the text itself is not sent to a server.
Are spaces and line breaks included?
They are included in Characters. The Without whitespace value removes whitespace before counting.
How are emoji counted?
On supported browsers, Unicode grapheme segmentation is used, allowing many multi-code-point emoji to be counted as one visible character.
Is the 400-character page count exact?
No. It is a simple estimate based on character count divided by 400 and does not model page layout or unused cells at line endings.
Can I count only part of the text?
Yes. Select a range in the editor and its character count appears under Selection.
Does word count work for every language?
It is a reference value. Browser word segmentation is used when available, but exact word boundaries can differ by language and context.
