Remove Image Metadata

Remove EXIF, GPS, XMP, and other embedded metadata from JPG, PNG, and WebP images in your browser.

Your files are not uploaded to a server. All processing is performed locally in your browser.

Remove EXIF, location, and other image metadata

Re-save JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP images in your browser without carrying over EXIF, GPS location, XMP, comments, and other embedded metadata from the originals. Multiple images can be processed together.

How to use

  1. Add one or more images.
  2. Review the simple detection result for location, capture date, device information, and other metadata.
  3. Select Remove Metadata.
  4. Download cleaned images individually, or download multiple results together as a ZIP file.

Image orientation

Phone photos may use the EXIF Orientation tag to define how the pixels should be displayed. This tool re-saves the image after the browser has applied its visual orientation, so removing Orientation metadata does not leave the photo sideways or upside down.

Quality and file size

Images are re-encoded in the browser so the original metadata is not carried over. PNG transparency is preserved, while JPG and WebP are saved at a high-quality setting. File size may therefore increase or decrease, and JPG or WebP images may have a very small quality difference from the source.

About metadata detection

The detection result is a quick check for common EXIF, GPS, XMP, and text metadata. Even when no removable metadata is detected, the cleaned result is produced in the same way and does not carry over embedded metadata from the original file.

FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Metadata inspection, image re-encoding, and ZIP creation all happen locally in your browser. The image files are not sent to or stored on tools.yayao.site.

What metadata is removed?

The cleaned image is re-saved without carrying over EXIF, GPS location, XMP, comments, and other embedded metadata from the original. Capture dates, camera or phone model details, and shooting settings are not carried over either.

Can I keep some metadata, such as the date, while removing GPS?

No. This tool is intentionally limited to removing embedded metadata as a group. It does not provide per-field preservation controls.

Will removing EXIF rotate my photo?

The visual orientation is applied before the image is re-saved, so removing the EXIF Orientation tag should not by itself leave a phone photo sideways or upside down.

Which image formats are supported?

JPG, JPEG, PNG, and WebP are supported. Cleaned images are saved in the same format as the originals.

Does image quality change?

PNG transparency is preserved. JPG and WebP files are re-encoded at high quality, so they should normally look the same, but a very small quality difference or file-size change can occur.

Should I process an image when the tool says no metadata was detected?

Yes, if you want a cleaned copy. Detection is a quick check for common metadata. Processing still re-saves the image without carrying over embedded metadata from the original file.

Can I process multiple images at once?

Yes. Add multiple images, clean them together, and download the results as a ZIP file.
